Aluminum Radiant Heat Transfer Plates

Studies indicate that with radiant heating systems people can be comfortable at temperatures 6°F to 8°F lower than with convective systems.

Radiant heating is the most comfortable heating system anywhere.Humidification is unnecessary with a radiant system because radiant heat does not alter residential air moisture content, which is generally adequate if the air isn’t dried out by combustion or by increased infiltration of cold, dry outside air.

Aluminum Finned Tube Heat Transfer Plates are necessary for most radiant heating installations that are not encased in concrete. They improve the conductivity of heat out of the radiant tubing and increase the surface area of the system to speed heat transfer to the building.

Radiant floor heating systems like to tout that they are the “most efficient” method of heating a home. The high efficiency of radiant systems only happen due to the low required water temperatures to satisfy the heating load. So the lower the required water temperature to heat your home the more energy savings you will enjoy. The right heat transfer plate can mean money in your pocket.

An efficient method to distribute radiant heat from PEX tubing. HWALU Aluminum Finned Tube Heat Transfer offer an efficient method of distributing radiant heat from PEX tubing. The channel is a wrap around omega shape (Ω) for a snug fit that holds the tubing in place very effectively in above floor systems such as the RHT Floor Panel System. New radiant floor heat transfer plate, we also have custom box lots and can produce then in any size between 2′ and 4′. the plate are 5″ inches wide and 48″ long. 1/2″ pex or other poly tubing pushes into the center channel for a tight heat distribution fit. Omega shape offers more contact with tubing than U-shaped plates and has a better heat transfer.Increase Radiant Floor Heating System’s efficiency and response time.

The following image illustrates the heat transfer process during joist space installation using heat transfer plates. The image speaks for itself and gives very good reasons to consider using the heat transfer plates wherever it is possible.

Without heat transfer plates

Staple up without heat transfer plates. These system will run lower than suspend tube system but hotter than plate type system due to less conductive surface.

Using aluminium heat transfer plates

Staple up with heat transfer plates. These system will run at a lower temperature than to the addition of aluminum fins which extend the contact surface area.

Testimonial From A Customer

“1bought a Flir C2 infrared camera and shot some pics of my cottage’s radiant floor.I did the hardwood floor with no aluminum heat plates and the bath floor with Radiant Engineering’s heat transfer plates that go on the top of the plywood. As you can see in the infrared picture, there is a substantial difference in the heat transfer to the floor surface.”

Aluminum Underfloor Heating Plates are used to get even heat distribution as well as reduce supply temperature by 30-40% and save on heating bills. Lower water temperature also means less damage to the flooring from excessive heat.

HWALU Aluminum Underfloor Heating Plates are formed aluminum plates specifically designed to pro- vide excellent heat transfer between radiant heating pipes and floors or other surfaces.

  1. Increases heat transfer by over 30%
  2. C-Channel design for better tubing contact and holding tubes in place
  3. Precise thickness to optimize efficiency – thicker than the other guys!
  4. Lower water temperatures
  5. Lower heating bills
  6. Great for retrofits and new construction

Aluminum Underfloor Heating Plates are typically used when installing radiant tubing under existing floorsorin new installations with wood or other floor materials to be placed on top of the floor base. They may also be used to transfer heat to various other mechanically secure surfaces in a wall or ceiling installation.

1) The tubing will last longer.
2) Lower temperatures means less heat loss through the boiler, primary piping and tubing.
3) Fewer expansion and contraction noises.

The use of transfer plates in under floor heating is (in my opinion)the only way to go.

If you just put in more tubing per square foot your still relying on convection rather than conduction. The plates are designed to transfer the heat across the entire surface. With just the tubing, your heating the air space and trying to heat your living space via the hotter air under your flooring. Although the tubing is in direct contact with the floor, your not going to be able to get more than 8 inches on center with 1/2. Unless you plan on running several tubes down one bay, thus increasing your costs on manifolds ect. The btu’s that are distributed with the plates and astro foil 5/8 of an inch under the plates yeilds 46 btu’s per square foot.

The following flooring types may be installed above this type of system:
i. Nail-down solid hardwood
ii. Floating hardwood
iii. Engineered hardwood
iv. Glue-down wood flooring
v. Carpet (broadloom or tiles)
vi. Vinyl (sheet or tiles)
vii. Ceramic tile

Advantage Of Our Heat Plates

  • Our plates are Omega-shaped (not “V” or “U”-shaped like others) and allow to snap in PEX pipe during installation, making it much faster and easier. This channel shape offers more contact with tubing than U-shaped plates and has a better heat transfer.
  • Increase Radiant Floor Heating System’s efficiency and response time.
  • Save time and labor – Omega-shaped plates allow for a 1-person installation.

Advantage Of Aluminum Heat Transfer Products

Nothing comes even close to the comfort of a radiant heat system. Radiant heating systems are just about hypoallergenic. On the whole, they are more efficient than baseboard heating and forced-air heating.Without blowers, there are no noisy fans, and the home is peaceful. This underfloor heating system eliminates inconvenient floor and wall registers. These systems are easy to zone and offer room-to-room temperature control with multiple thermostats.

Radiant Floor Heat Aluminum Diffusion Plates offer a number of advantages: They allow for a more even heat distribution across the flooring surface if compared to staple-up tubing installation. They serve as a support for PEX tubing and eliminate the need for additional installation accessories. They allow for a lower fluid supply temperature, thus increasing the radiant heating system’s efficiency and reducing the costs of heating.

Comfort: Nothing comes even close to the comfort of a radiant heat system. The technology works much the same as how the sun heats your body. Heat is dispensed evenly from the floor, but does not rise because we are heating the objects in a given space, not the air. It’s a natural feel and you can enjoy a warm chair and warm floors while walking barefoot in the wintertime.

Clean: Radiant heating systems are just about hypoallergenic. Since the air is not forced, you don’t have to be concerned about the heating system distributing pollen, dust and other allergens in the home.

Energy Efficient: On the whole, they are more efficient than baseboard heating and forced-air heating. With forced air-heating, up to 30 percent of the heat is lost due to ductwork alone. Again, hot air rises. Therfore, when heating a builing envelope with hot air, the space must be filled with hot air from the ceiling down until it reaches your actual living space. With radiant heat, the taller the ceilings, the better efficiency gains in comparison.

Whisper Quiet: Without blowers, there are no noisy fans, and the home is peaceful.

Attractive: This underfloor heating system eliminates inconvenient floor and wall registers.

Zoning: These systems are easy to zone and offer room-to-room temperature control with multiple thermostats.

Versatility: Radiant systems can use a wide variety of fuel sources to heat the liquid, including solar water heaters, geothermal heat pumps, high efficiency gas boilers, wood gasification boilers or oil boilers.

Applications Of Aluminum Heat Transfer Products

Stamped Heat Transfer Plates are a thinner, and are commonly used in sandwich-type radiant floors, where PEX tubing is placed between the finished floor (i.e. laminate, hardwood, etc.) and the subfloor. These plates are wide and short, which makes them ideal for such projects and allows for more versatility in installation.

Under the Sub-floor installation – Between Floor Joist – Engineered Floor Boards – Between plywood installation (Sandwich Installation)
